One of the residencies during my MBA was in Lima, Peru. I spent 2 weeks there, and I really loved the city. That is when I decided, I would love to have a good family vacation in Peru. I was hoping our big family trip for 2022 would be an amazing and memorable one like everyone does. So, I started planning early on in first quarter of 2022 and finalized an itinerary and location – WE ARE GOING TO PERU!!!
Fast forward to Dec 7th; 10 days before our trip starts there is some political unrest in Peru and by 15th December a National Emergency is declared which directly impacted all our tours and excursions planned. We are now thinking about what to do; with high hopes of having a fun vacation no one wanted to stay home. So, in 2 days we whipped up an itinerary for Argentina for the same dates instead of Peru. It was as if we weren’t destined to go to Peru, but we were destined to take a vacation in Argentina in 2022 😊
ARGENTINA HERE WE COME!!!
Some Tips for Argentina Trip
- Currency – In Argentina there’s a secondary market called “Blue Dollar” AKA Dólar Blue. Please go through the link and if you have any questions while reading this, you can use the contact form to send me any questions that I can answer based on my personal experience only.
- Excursion & Tours – Research tours and excursions and decide what you want to do. Book most of the tours when you land. You might end up saving some money. I will leave some local tour operator contacts in the Bariloche post, with whom I worked with and had a wonderful experience.
- In Bariloche buy some chocolates from Mamuschka and have some awesome waffle/fruit/ice-cream from Rapanui.
- If you are adventurous enough; rent a car and do these excursions on your own with a little more research on these areas. This might be more fun and save some $$$ and provide a distinct experience (San Martín de los Andes by the 7 Lakes Route).
- If possible, take the bus (#20) from Center of the town to Puerto Manuelo (for this tour – Puerto Blest Sightseeing Cruise and Waterfalls Hike from Bariloche or Nahuel Huapi Lake Cruise with Victoria Island and Arrayan Forest Walk). Tour companies charge $2300 ARS per person for this. If you use the bus, you will pay $100 ARS per person to reach Puerto Manuelo from where the ferries depart.
- Maté is an integral part of Argentinian life, and its ceremony is tied to feelings of friendship and kinship, with both friends and strangers. The act of pouring and sharing maté is an act of love and dedication, governed by certain unwritten rules for those participating in the round. There is a well-known saying: “Maté that changes hands is ruined.” This refers to the custom that the maté pourer cannot be changed mid-round; the same person must pour all the way through.
- For Wine lovers – please look at Mendoza- which is a city in Argentina and the heart of Argentina’s wine country, famed for Malbecs and other red wines. We were not able to do this on our last-minute trip.
- End of the World – Ushuaia is a resort town in Argentina. It is the southernmost tip of South America, nicknamed the “End of the World.” We were not able to do this on our last-minute trip.
